Pelicans Stymie Brisbane, Take 5-0 Win | The St. Petersburg Pelicans got a strong performance from pitcher Tony Ruiz, who stymied the Brisbane offense en route to a 5-0 win at Billy Mathews Field. St. Petersburg improves to 103-51 with the win. They lead their division by 8½ games.
The Pelicans got a big at-bat from shortstop David Tapia. For the game, Tapia went 2 for 4 with a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the second, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run single. His 126th hit of the season gave St. Petersburg a 2-0 lead.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Ruiz said after the game.
