Gnats Clip Jedi Knights, 8-7 | The New Orleans Jedi Knights and Nichols Gnats provided some drama at The Republic.
The New Orleans Jedi Knights got a sterling performance from third baseman Heiichi Matsuo, but the Gnats still prevailed, 8-7. Matsuo was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He was 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk. Nichols reliever Emilio Aguinaga picked up the win, upping his record to 8-7. Trent Gahan was saddled with the loss.
The Gnats got a big at-bat from right fielder Miguel Ortiz. For the game, Ortiz went 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Nichols a 2-0 lead.
Ortiz told a Nichols Observer reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
Nichols is now 66-84. New Orleans is 67-86.
