Warriors Come Up Short at St. Petersburg, 2-1
|
The Moose Jaw Warriors got a superb performance from pitcher Erik Newberry. Still, it wasn't enough to beat St. Petersburg. The Pelicans won the game, 2-1. Newberry threw 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball. The win went to Ed Bernardez in relief, making him now 1-3. Erik Newberry took the loss for Moose Jaw. Getting the save was Dane Miller, his 3rd.
St. Petersburg catcher Mario Olvera helped the Pelicans go up, 2-1, in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the game tied, Olvera hit a run-scoring single off Moose Jaw pitcher Erik Newberry.
"Nice to get this one," said Olvera. "Wins have been hard to come by."
The triumph makes St. Petersburg 18-132.
