Gnats Score Late to Nip Princes, 3-2
|
Nichols turned a good effort from starter Mike Vance into a win over the Bel Air Princes at Philip Banks Field. The final score was 3-2. Dustin Phillips, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 27th save. The win puts the Gnats at 78-49, while the Princes drop to 54-73.
Nichols used the timely hitting of Rickey Jansen to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Gnats on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
In postgame remarks, Jansen hailed his team's "grit."
