Matsuo drives in 5 runs as Jedi Knights Squeeze Past Charleston | The New Orleans Jedi Knights grabbed a 5-4 win over the Charleston Panthers at The Republic. New Orleans third baseman Heiichi Matsuo went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 5 runs and scored once to earn player of the game honors. Jared Layton, the winner, improved to 10-4. He held the Panthers to 4 earned runs on 6 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 1. Matthew Varga got the save, his 13th in 18 chances.
Matsuo contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for New Orleans in the bottom of the first. With his team trailing 1-0, Matsuo took a fastball from Mike Vineyard and stroked the home run to left. His 9th home run of the season allowed the Jedi Knights to leap in front, 4-1.
