The Charleston Panthers overcame a pretty good performance by Kingwood second baseman Lyle Reid, beating the Knights, 7-5, at Franklin Mountains Field. Reid went 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Gene Aikman notched his 10th save in 12 chances. Charleston, with the win, climbs to 46-96.
In the bottom of the sixth, Charleston third baseman Yukio Yana had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and one out, Yana stroked a 2-run single to center. It made the score 5-2, Charleston. For the game, he went 1 for 2 with 3 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," Yana told the Charleston Daily. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
