Lawmen Score Late, Top Pelicans, 7-5
|
The inspired effort of St. Petersburg left fielder Patrick Branum was not enough to prevent a loss, 7-5, to the Marshall Lawmen. Branum was 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. The winning pitcher was 22-year old right-handed pitcher Chris Adair. He tossed 109 pitches over 7.2 innings, allowing 5 runs on 5 hits. Getting the save was Andy Gardner, his 26th.
Dave Moorman was 1 for 4 with a double, while adding 3 RBI for Marshall. The 20-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the eighth. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 5-5 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Antonio Ponce. It was his 71st RBI of the season.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said Marshall manager Jim Moores.
Marshall is second in the RCL A Dusty Baker Division with a record of 79-38.
