| Road Warriors Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Pelicans | The St. Petersburg Pelicans got a sterling performance from pitcher Juan Ayala, but the Road Warriors still prevailed, 3-2. Ayala was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball. Westside reliever Nick Lenza got the win, raising his record to 7-4. Marlon Douglas was tagged with the loss. Manuel Visser converted his 22nd save in 23 tries.
The Road Warriors got a big at-bat from first baseman Kiyotaka Sugimoto. For the game, Sugimoto was 1-4, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 99th hit of the season gave Westside a 3-2 lead.
"It feels good to get this one," Sugimoto told the Westside Chronicle.
Westside is now riding a 6-game win streak.
