Billy Cardwell pitched well, but his team, the St. Petersburg Pelicans, still dropped a 4-2 decision to the Moonbeam Martians at Abbey Stadium. Nestor Dominguez picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Billy Cardwell was tagged with the loss. Picking up his 15th save was fireballing right-hander Rich Blaquiere.

Josh Purcell had a big 2-run double for the Martians in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Moonbeam leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Sergio Badillo and swatted a double to right. It was his 27th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Martians ahead, 4-1.

Purcell told a Moonbeam Bulletin reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.

Moonbeam is looking good at 107-20.
