Civics Absorb 6-3 Home Loss
|
The Memphis Blues picked up a win at Civics Field, knocking off the Ottawa Civics, 6-3. Starting pitcher Victor Cortez played a key role in the triumph. Cortez, now 7-3, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 6, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Memphis is second in the TML A Earl Weaver Division with a record of 56-46.
Memphis used the timely hitting of Kenny Cox to capture the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Blues on top, 3-0. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but he made it count.
"We scored more than enough runs this time," said Memphis manager Mike Williams. "Now watch. The next game we'll probably struggle to get a base hit."
