Poor Powers Moonshiners to 9-0 Win
|
Jeff Poor, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2058 draft, led Asheville to a triumph over Manhattan. The final score was 9-0. The third baseman went 3 for 4, falling a triple shy of the cycle. He scored 2 runs and added 3 RBI. Jose Ayala went 7 innings, allowing no runs on 4 hits. The left-hander struck out 5 and walked 2. With the win, he ups his record to 3-6 this season. Asheville goes to 24-28, Manhattan to 26-25.
Unpei Takeshita went 2-4 with 2 singles for Asheville. The 25-year old second baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring single off Marco Garcia. It was his 35th hit of the season.
Moonshiners manager Dylan Light had nothing but praise for his players after an impressive win, calling the result one of the team's best performances of the season. "Everything just came together on our end," he said. "I didn't need to do too much."
