Magaw Goes Off, But Sting Win
Ernie Magaw had a good game, but he could not keep the Eugene Emeralds from falling, 16-14, to the Houston Sting at Prefontaine Park. The Eugene right fielder went 3-4 with a home run, a double, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 runs and drove in 5 in the loss. Houston reliever David Hobson was credited with the win. His record goes to 3-1. Miguel Betancourt took the loss for Eugene. The Sting are now 45-55, while the Emeralds fall to 36-64.

Joe Sampson drew 4 walks. He scored 2 runs for Houston. The 22-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the seventh. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 12-12 tie with a run-scoring walk off Carlos Munoz. It was his 24th walk of the season.

"No one player deserves all the credit when you win," Sampson said. "And the same is true when you lose."
