Brisbane Loss Tarnishes Fine Game by President
|
The St. Petersburg Pelicans withstood a fine game by Brisbane left fielder Myles President at Baylor Ballpark, to upend the Bush Wackers, 11-9. President went 2-4 with 2 home runs and was hit by a pitch, while adding 6 RBI and scoring twice. The winner in relief was Carlos Asencio. He is now 2-7. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. The last-place Pelicans have won 4 consecutive games.
St. Petersburg needed the clutch hitting of Harry Maxfield to seal the deal. The third baseman swatted a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Pelicans on top, 11-9. For the game, Maxfield had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"We certainly don't want to get used to losing," said losing manager Charlie Hide.
