A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Nichols Gnats and Eugene Emeralds.

Nichols pitcher Chad Stoppa did his part in helping his team beat the Eugene Emeralds, 6-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. The Gnats saw their win-loss record go to 45-44. At the same time, the Emeralds fell to 32-57.

Nichols used the timely hitting of Brian Carr to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Gnats on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Solid game, solid win tonight," said a smiling Stoppa.
