Big Day for Viveros as Gnats Down River Chiefs, 6-4
|
The Nichols Gnats bested the Chippewa River Chiefs by a score of 6-4, with second baseman Rogelio Viveros getting the main credit. On the day, Viveros was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for the Gnats. The win was Nick Mullin's in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Josh Alberts took the loss for Chippewa. With the win, Nichols goes to 54-50, while the River Chiefs fall to 61-42.
One of the biggest contributors for Nichols was left fielder Mike Kubena. In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, Kubena got a first pitch fastball and hit a 2-run single. That put the Gnats on top, 6-4.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Viveros said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
