Beckman Leads Saints to 9-5 Win Over Gnats
Butch Beckman was a major contributor to the 9-5 St. Paul win over Nichols. The Saints left fielder was 2-2 with a home run and 3 walks, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Alex Elizalde went 7.1 innings for St. Paul to pick up the win. The right-hander was charged with 3 runs. He scattered 5 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 4. His record improves to 4-5. Rafael Valentin earned the save for St. Paul.

Matt Akers had a big 2-run double for the Saints in the top of the fifth inning. With St. Paul leading 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a sinker from Jose Aguillar and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 4th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Saints ahead, 3-0.

"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Akers said after the game.

The 5th-place Saints bumped their record to 39-62.
