Soggy conditions did not keep Nichols and Ocala from playing their scheduled game.

The Nichols Gnats topped the Ocala Knights, 5-1, with youngster Jack Gosse playing a key role. Gosse was 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Gnats in the win. The winner in relief was Celestino Gobbi. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.2 innings. He now owns a record of 3-0.

Jesus Torres helped out the Nichols cause in the top of the seventh inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the first baseman was 1 for 4.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Nichols skipper Mike Nevil.

The win has Nichols at 36-55.
