The Hawaii Honu pinned a convincing loss on the Asheville Moonshiners, 9-3, at Aloha Stadium. Austin Thompson was a main factor in the win. He was 2 for 4 with a double and a walk, while scoring 3 times for Hawaii. Tom Mitcham picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Steve Blaire suffered the loss. The Honu move to 23-26 with the win, while the Moonshiners drop to 20-31.

The Moonshiners had been locked in a 3-3 tie with the Honu going into the bottom of the seventh inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old left fielder Sandy Rosales came to the plate. Rosales hit a 2-run double on a 2-2 fastball from Asheville hurler Steve Blaire. It was Rosales's 9th double of the year.

"We didn't get the results that we wanted," said Asheville skipper Baldassario Ardinghi.
