Spaans Swings River Chiefs to 7-3 Win
|
Conditions were not ideal but Chippewa and Ottawa were able to put their game in the books.
Elias Spaans knocked in 3 runs to help Chippewa beat Ottawa, 7-3. Spaans produced 1 single, 1 double, and 1 home run. Michael Melis, the winner, improved to 3-0. He held Ottawa to 3 runs on 6 hits over 8 innings, while racking up 11 strikeouts.
The River Chiefs got a big at-bat from first baseman Mike Devine. For the game, Devine went 3-4 with 2 doubles, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 25th double of the season gave Chippewa a 3-2 lead.
"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Devine said.
Today's win puts Chippewa at 29-42, while Ottawa falls to 44-28.
