Victoria Beats New Orleans, 8-3
|
The New Orleans Jedi Knights and Victoria Vikings were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd at The Republic.
Victoria Vikings starter Mike Deringer was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the New Orleans Jedi Knights, 8-3. Deringer, now 5-6, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 3 earned runs. Jay Kramer notched his 1st save in 2 chances.
Victoria used the clutch hitting of Gabe Gutierrez to capture the win. The right fielder drilled a bases-clearing double in the top of the fifth inning to give the Vikings the lead, 5-0. For the game, Gutierrez had 1 single and 1 double in 5 at-bats.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Deringer told the Victoria Today. "It's as simple as that."
The Vikings now have a record of 42-40 with the win over New Orleans.
