Nichols got a decent performance from pitcher Roy Weareorwear, but it wasn't enough to beat the Ottawa Civics. Ottawa won the The Pond contest, 4-3. Weareorwear threw 8.2 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Tom House picked up the win, improving his season record to 1-2. He struck out 4 in 6 innings. Greg Pond picked up the save, his 1st.
Ottawa used a clutch at-bat from Jerry Paddack to capture the win. The catcher hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Civics ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"I like what I saw today," said Ottawa manager Eduardo Rosário, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
The Civics now own a record of 30-39.
