The Memphis Blues defeated the Brisbane Bush Wackers, 7-4. Doing his part was second baseman Rich Tooze, who was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Picking up the save was Bobby Gottlieb, his 19th. The win for the Blues raised their record to 53-23.
It could have been a different outcome for Memphis, had it not been for Troy Hughes, the slick-fielding shortstop . Hughes contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put Memphis up, 6-4.
"Good, gritty kind of win," said Blues manager Mike Williams.
