Thrilling Victory Pushes River Chiefs Win Streak to 5
|
The Chippewa River Chiefs faced a tough opponent in Nichols pitcher Matt Marsh, but did just enough to pull out the victory at The Reservation by a final score of 6-2. Marsh went 5 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Gil Ruelas was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 20 of 22 save opportunities. The second-place River Chiefs have won 5 straight games.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Everton Hofland came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Nichols pitcher Luis Herrera, he hit a first pitch slider for a run-scoring triple. It was a game-changer, putting Chippewa on top, 2-1.
"There were things that we could've improved upon," said River Chiefs manager Clayton O'Neil, "but all in all, I'm satisfied with our performance."
