El Paso used a well-timed hit by Brad Coates to capture the win. The shortstop socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Mavericks ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 1 at-bat, it was important.

"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Coates. "You've got to get results."
