Knights Fall to .500 After Loss to Panthers
|
Charleston shortstop Daniel Mejia was instrumental in his team's 5-3 win over the Kingwood Knights. Mejia went 2-4 with 1 run scored to lead the offensive attack for the Panthers. Charleston reliever Gus Paz was the winner. His record is now 3-1. The losing pitcher was Hideo Nomo Jr.. Mike Curtis earned his 7th save in 7 tries.
A key at-bat in the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Panthers sent teenager Luis Galicia to the plate against Knights hurler Hideo Nomo Jr.. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a 0-1 splitter to score 1.
"We think we're a good team overall, so we're not too surprised to win today," said Mejia.
Charleston is now riding a 3-game win streak.
