Hanson Goes Off, But Knights Win
Chippewa shortstop Garrett Hanson was sensational. He was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Kingwood beat the River Chiefs, 9-8. Mike Hammontree, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 0.2 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 0 and walking 2. Allen Justice finished the game for Kingwood and earned his 6th save.

Butch Laramie hit a run-scoring triple off Victor Salinas in the bottom of the eighth, which put the Knights in front, 9-8. Laramie had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 5.
