Yepez, Pelicans Beat Bandits, 12-8
|
The St. Petersburg Pelicans and Brownsville Bandits lit up the scoreboard.
A 5-RBI performance from first baseman Ismael Yepez, who is tied for 2nd in the RHA in extra base hits with 30, led the St. Petersburg Pelicans to a win over the Brownsville Bandits, 12-8. Jorge Adame was the winner in relief. His record is now 2-1. The losing pitcher was Esteban Altamirano. The save was credited to Kelby Balaski, his 8th.
With St. Petersburg leading 2-0 in the top of the second, Yepez hit a slider from Esteban Altamirano for a 3-run home run. It was his 14th home run of the season and put the Pelicans ahead, 5-0.
Pelicans manager Gilbert Drader wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
St. Petersburg has a record of 10-38, placing them last in the RCL HA Dusty Baker Division.
