In a low-scoring tilt between the Ottawa Civics and the Okanagan Lake Monsters, Wynn Backstrom, who leads the THA with a 1.32 ERA, was the difference-maker. The Ottawa right-hander spearheaded the 3-1 win. Greg Pond closed it out for his 11th save. The third-place Lake Monsters now sit at 21-22.

The Civics benefited from an error in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ottawa was leading 1-0 when Shawn Kelly hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put Ottawa in front, 3-0.

"That's how you're going to be successful," said Civics manager Eduardo Rosário. "It starts with pitching and it will always be pitching."
