Another day, another victory for the red-hot Carmel Apples.
Tony Hazelgrove never let San Angelo get something going. The Carmel right-hander commanded his fastball in pitching the Apples to a 4-1 win. Hazelgrove yielded 1 run over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 9. His record improves to 6-0. Bobby Jones locked down his 10th save.
Carmel used a well-timed hit by Eugene Holden to capture the win. The catcher socked a run-scoring double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Apples ahead, 1-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"Tony pumped strikes and he made good pitches when he had to," said Carmel manager Hi-yuan Pan.
Carmel has won 8 straight, while San Angelo has lost 3 in a row.
