Slumping Emeralds Lose 7th Straight
The Houston Sting trumped the Eugene Emeralds, 7-5, at Woodland Park. Houston pinch hitter Rick McDaniel was terrific. He was 1 for 1 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The winner was Houston reliever Nate Mitchell, now 2-1. The loser was Carlos Munoz. Nelson Zermeno recorded the save, his 7th.

McDaniel had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the eighth. On a 1-1 slider from Santos Lorenzana, he banged a 3-run home run to right-center, giving the Sting a 7-5 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for McDaniel.

"We gave it the old college try," said Eugene manager Kyung-chul Kim. "But the old college try wasn't good enough."

With the win, Houston goes to 18-16, while the Emeralds fall to 11-24.
