Pioneers Beat Honu, 9-1
The Vancouver Pioneers knocked off the Hawaii Honu, 9-1, in Thurman Munson League action at "The Fort" at B.C. Place. Vancouver pitcher and Cranston, Rhode Island, native Mike Ortner had an outstanding performance. Ortner, now 3-4, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing no runs. At 23-23, the Pioneers find themselves in third place in the Thurman Munson League Billy Martin Division.

Fidel Martinez had a big 2-run home run for the Pioneers in the bottom of the third inning. With Vancouver leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a changeup from Chris Sweeney and swatted a home run to left. It was his 13th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Pioneers ahead, 3-0.

"We're not trying to lose games," Hawaii manager Naoki Okada said. "We're working as hard as we can every single day to win ballgames."
