The Walnut Creek Warriors rode a solid performance from 27-year-old starting pitcher Joseph Fredericks to a win, beating the Vancouver Pioneers, 4-2, at "The Fort" at B.C. Place. Fredericks yielded 2 runs over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 10 hits, walked 0, and struck out 6. His record improves to 5-3. The Warriors improved to a lofty 40-12.
Walnut Creek used the timely hitting of Wally Cassell to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Warriors on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Joseph's not intimidated by who's stepping into the batter's box," said Walnut Creek manager Armando Medina.
