The Ottawa Civics had to overcome a good performance from Memphis pitcher Nick Marshall to claim a 3-1 win at Civics Field. Marshall went 6.1 innings and allowed 1 run. Rodrigo Gutierrez earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.1 innings. He upped his record to 3-0. Ben Waite closed out the game, earning his 2nd save.

Had Sam Spurr not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Spurr hit a 2-run single. That made the score 3-1, in favor of the Civics.

"We need better swings, better at-bats," said losing manager Mike Williams.

The second-place Civics sport a record of 25-13.
