Carmel Apples starter David Lewis was locked-in. He led his team to a win over the Nichols Gnats, 3-2. The Apples, now 19-8, have hit the ground running this season.
Carmel first baseman Rich Van Winkle contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to left-center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 25th hit of the season and put the Apples ahead, 3-1.
"My job is to throw quality pitches, go as deep as I can, and give us an opportunity," said Lewis.
