Charleston Panthers starter Jose Vega pitched effectively against the Carmel Apples at Franklin Mountains Field. The right-hander spearheaded his team's 7-5 win. Charleston pitcher Frank Sturge got the win. He's now 1-1. Nick Fortenberry was tagged with the loss. Mike Kalk finished the game for Charleston and earned his 4th save.

Joe Pacific drew 1 walk for Charleston. The 20-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring walk off Nick Fortenberry. It was his 2nd walk of the season.

"Jose did a really nice job of taking the ball and giving us a chance to win the game," said Charleston manager Jin-song Cheung.

Despite the defeat, Carmel still has a fine 17-7 record.
