The Carmel Apples beat the St. Petersburg Pelicans, 5-4, in 13 innings. Carmel shortstop Adam Ruma, in particular, had a fine performance. He went 2-6 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Now 4-26, the 2064 Pelicans have played a subpar brand of baseball so far.

The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the 13th. With Carmel trailing 4-3, Ruma jumped on a fastball from 22-year old right-handed pitcher Jean-Pierre Barreau and hit a 2-run home run to left. With one swing, the Apples had a walk-off win.

"Took some scratching and clawing," said Ruma. "But we got it done."
