Starting pitcher Nick Tullo pitched well enough to help the Hazleton Birdwings beat the St. Petersburg Pelicans, 6-4. In 8 innings, Tullo surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 11 and walking 1. He allowed 4 runs. Randy McCafferty earned the save for Hazleton, his 8th of the year.

Hazleton used the timely hitting of Ben Gasper to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Birdwings on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Nick was in attack mode the whole game," said Hazleton manager Roberto Flores.
