Mustangs Saddle Panthers with 6-1 Loss
|
San Angelo Mustangs starter Carlos Lira worked his magic, to help his team defeat the Charleston Panthers, 6-1. Lira, now 1-1, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 6, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. With the win, San Angelo goes to 12-13.
Ricardo Nunez had a big 2-run double for the Mustangs in the bottom of the fifth inning. With San Angelo leading 4-1 and the bases loaded, he got a splitter from Gene Aikman, who is tied for 7th in the THA in wins with 3, and swatted a double to right. It was his 6th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mustangs ahead, 6-1.
Lira called the win "what playing unselfish baseball looks like."
