The Brownsville Bandits, despite a fine performance by Houston pitcher Juan Morales, grabbed a 3-2 win at Bandits Grove. Morales allowed 3 runs over 7.2 innings. Tom Hughes, credited with the win in relief, is now 2-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 0.2 innings. With the loss, Houston sinks to 9-11.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Brownsville center fielder Tsuneyoshi Taniguchi, facing Norietsu Ito, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Bandits the 3-2 win.

"We just didn't score enough runs to win," said Houston manager Barnabé Bacm.
