The St. Petersburg Pelicans downed the Elizabeth Town Thunder, 9-4, at Valhalla Summit. Ramon Aguirre led the way, going 2-for-6 for St. Petersburg. Antonio Ponce, the winner, is now 1-2. He struck out 4 and walked 4 over 7 innings, while allowing 3 runs on 8 hits. Bernie Aguilar closed out the game, earning his 1st save.
St. Petersburg grabbed the momentum in the top of the fifth, when Aguirre hit a 2-run home run off Sal Coronado. His 2nd home run of the season put the Pelicans out in front, 5-3.
"Nice to get this one," said Aguirre. "Wins have been hard to come by."
Elizabeth Town, at 3-16, has had a dismal start to the season.
