Williamsport second baseman Nelson Mendoza had a good game, even if his team did not. The Crosscutters dropped a 7-6 decision to Kingwood at Crosscutters Park. Mendoza was 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. Chris Helstrom picked up the win with 5.2 innings of work. He allowed 3 earned runs on 4 hits, while walking 5 and striking out 4. On the season, he is now 2-1. Kyle Jackson closed it out for his 4th save.
Kingwood used the bat of Antonio Valdez to capture the win. The third baseman jacked a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Knights ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a dandy.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Valdez.
Williamsport, at 5-15, is off to a poor start in 2044.
