The Houston Sting took St. Petersburg pitcher Marcos Melchor's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Billy Mathews Field. The final score had Houston getting past the Pelicans, 8-6. Melchor went 5.2 innings and allowed 2 earned runs, striking out 9. The winner was Elijah Turner in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Jon Crouse took the loss. The Pelicans fall to 7-9 and continue their uneven start to the 2044 season.

Travis Galyon was 2-5 with a double for Houston. With no one out and the game tied in the top of the eighth inning, Galyon had a clutch at-bat. Facing St. Petersburg hurler Mike Palmbos, he hit a run-scoring double to give the Sting a 5-4 lead.

"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Geoffrey Jellineck.
