Montreal Triumphs with Late Surge
|
The Montreal Jazz defeated the Kansas City Tornadoes, 8-6, in part because of second baseman Mike Maguire. Maguire was 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Jazz. Montreal pitcher Wolde-Selassie Ndegwa got the win, upping his record to 2-1. Alex Alvarez got the loss. Montreal is in 5th place in the Thurman Munson League Tim Ervin Division with a record of 20-22.
The result might have been different, had it not been for former first round draft pick Chris Jones. Jones had a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Jazz ahead, 8-6. For the game, Jones had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Jones. "And not try to do too much."
