Gnats Drop Vikings with Late Score
|
The Nichols Gnats stopped the Victoria Vikings, 6-4, at The drakkar. The Gnats got a big game from Jaime Goodman, who was 2-3 with 2 singles and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs. Nichols reliever Danny Koger picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Ryan Britton shouldered the loss. Nichols, now 6-2, is playing great baseball to start the year.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the eighth, with the game tied, Jesus Velazquez was at the plate when Nichols scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Gnats to go in front, 5-4.
"When I'm in the lineup, I always feel like we're going to win the game," said Velazquez.
