Vikings Turn Back Knights, 5-3
|
Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Ocala Knights home opener. Dave Perez started for the home team against Josh Roby for the Victoria Vikings. The Knights were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 5-3, Victoria. Josh Roby, though, was impressive. Roby yielded 2 runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5. His record improves to 1-0. Mike Fields closed the game out for Victoria, earning his 1st save.
Victoria used the hitting of Matt Cochran to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a 2-run single in the top of the fourth inning to put the Vikings on top, 3-1. For the game, Cochran had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"We had situations where we should have got some runs in, but we didn't get the runs in," said losing manager Alexis Coates.
