Jones Goes Off, But Panthers Win
|
Crowds lined up early in front of Franklin Mountains Field, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2044 SINGLE A season. On the mound was Maxime Thomas for the visiting Chippewa River Chiefs and Nick Pintado for the hometown Charleston Panthers. In a spirited contest, the Panthers pulled out the win, defeating the River Chiefs by the score of 7-6. Earning player of the game honors was Gabe Jones. Cory Rebhahn was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.
In the bottom of the sixth, Charleston designated hitter Cullen Schram had a productive at-bat. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and two out, Schram stroked a 2-run double to center. It made the score 6-5, Charleston. For the game, he was 3-4 with 2 doubles and a walk, while adding 4 RBI.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Charleston manager Kinnojo Hara.
