Cairo Bats Go Silent in 6-0 Loss
|
Houghton Gremlins pitcher Owen Stegemann was in fine form, leading his team past the Cairo Pharaohs, 6-0. Houghton is now 20-21. Cairo is 17-25.
Tim Alessio had a big run-scoring double for the Gremlins in the bottom of the third inning. With Houghton leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a cutter from Cameron Mutton, who finished 4th in the RCL in ERA with 3.71 in 2059, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 17th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Gremlins ahead, 2-0.
Said losing manager Johnny Vallance: "It's very easy to sit in an ivory tower and critique the pitching, but the bottom line is we need to score runs."
