Bishops Bridle Cornhuskers, 3-1

Starting pitcher Antonio Hernandez gave the Evanston Bishops a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the DeKalb Cornhuskers, 3-1, at FUBU Field. The winning pitcher was Hernandez, now 4-4. He tossed 8 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 5 and fanning 3. The save was credited to Kirk Davis, his 4th.
A.J. Warne had a big run-scoring double for the Bishops in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Evanston leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he got a changeup from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Edgar Gonzalez and swatted a double to right. It was his 17th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Bishops ahead, 3-1.
"Antonio's stuff looked really, really crisp," said Demetrio Recchia, the Bishops manager.
Evanston, at 82-50, is 2½ games up in the TML AA Jim Leyland Division.
