The Rock River Rats got a stellar performance from pitcher Matt Hoffman, who handcuffed the Fraser Valley offense en route to a 3-1 win at The Rat Hole. Hoffman, the winner, moves to 4-6. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up no walks. Rock River is now 71-83. Fraser Valley is 75-79.
Rock River designated hitter Willie Amaya contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball into right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 30th hit of the season and put the Rats ahead, 2-0.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Hoffman told the Rock River Daily.
