In Extras, Spartans Beat Mustang, 4-3
|
The Sandy Springs Spartans had to overcome a big game from Carson City second baseman David Diaz to leave The Coliseum with a victory. And they did, winning, 4-3, in 14 innings. Diaz went 3-6 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Caleb Brickhouse claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.1 innings. His record stands at 2-1. The winning streak has now reached 5 games for the Spartans.
The decisive blow was delivered by Nick Rausch in the bottom of the 14th when he hit a run-scoring double off 25-year old right-handed pitcher Chris DePalma to win the game for Sandy Springs. The home crowd went nuts.
In postgame remarks, Rausch hailed his team's "mettle."
