Beehive Score Late to Win, 7-4
|
The DeKalb Cornhuskers could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Mike Barrio into a win. Instead, the Madison Beehive prevailed, 7-4. Barrio came in in relief and pitched to 25 batters. Jose Contreras, now 7-3, was credited with the win in 2.1 innings of relief. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 0. The victory puts Madison at 55-91.
Madison used the timely hitting of Jeremy Nielson to capture the win. The first baseman stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Beehive on top, 7-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.
"It never gets old," said Nielson. "Winning, that is."
